December 2012

The following story came to me in an email. I don't normally forward emails but it just didn't seem right to delete this message so I am copying it here. As we celebrate Christmas with our friends and family let's remember the reason for the season. Blessings to you and your family and wishes for a Happy New Year.

‘Twas 11 days before Christmas, around 9:38,
When 20 beautiful children stormed through heaven's gate.
Their smiles were contagious, their laughter filled the air.
They could hardly believe all the beauty they saw there.
They were filled with such joy, they didn't know what to say.
They remembered nothing of what had happened earlier that day.
"Where are we?" asked a little girl, as quiet as a mouse.
"This is Heaven," declared a small boy. "We're spending Christmas at God's house."
When what to their wondering eyes did appear, But Jesus, their Savior, the children gathered near.
He looked at them and smiled, and they smiled just the same.
Then He opened His arms and He called them by name,
And in that moment was joy, that only Heaven can bring.
Those children all flew into the arms of their King,
And as they lingered in the warmth of His embrace, one small girl turned and looked at Jesus' face.
And as if He could read all the questions she had, He gently whispered to her, "I'll take care of Mom and Dad."
Then He looked down on earth, the world far below, He saw all of the hurt, the sorrow, and woe.
Then He closed His eyes and He outstretched His hand, "Let My power and presence re-enter this land!"
"May this country be delivered from the hands of fools."
"I'm taking back my nation. I'm taking back my schools!"
Then He and the children stood up without a sound.
"Come now, my children, let me show you around."
Excitement filled the space, some skipped and some ran.
All displaying enthusiasm that only a small child can.
And I heard Him proclaim as He walked out of sight,
"In the midst of this darkness, I AM STILL THE LIGHT."

NEW YEARS GOALS

In the beginning of December when everyone around here was thinking about deer season, I was as always, riding. I was thinking ahead to what I want to do next year and what I need to get done to be ready. So, Fancy & I hauled down to meet with Kim Walnes www.thewayofthehorse.com in Dillsburg. Oh my gosh! how horribly embarrassing it is for a certified instructor to be so out of shape! But the soreness is going away and we're on the right path now. It is true what they say about riding lessons,
"the ones that think they need them the least are really the ones that need them the most."

I encourage everyone to make some riding goals, write them down and then make a plan to get there. Keep a journal and track your daily accomplishments, things you want to remember that have worked and your plan for improvement. Less than 5 minutes after each ride, it doesn't take much time, it just takes discipline. Obviously if you have a horse you already have tons of self discipline.

HAPPY 32 YEARS STONEY

A special happy birthday wish goes out to one of my first horses. Stoney and I are celebrating 32 years together. I am so grateful to have such a great partner and to have a place to keep him comfortable in his retirement years.

Stoney came to me as a weanling. He apparently had never been in a barn before much less anything else when my parents brought him home from Texas.   read more

WARM BIT = HAPPY HORSE

As the temperatures drop remember that a cold bit is very uncomfortable to your horse. I have an old heating pad in the barn that I plug in and wrap around the bit to warm up. By the time I am finished grooming and saddling, the bridle is nice and warm. Those electric bit warmers are nice too.

SADDLE FIT EVALUATION SCHEDULE
